We opened this golf course in May 1984. At that time it was operated as a private golf course facility for the University of Virginia. Since then it has been tied to the Boar’s Head Inn (which was purchased by the University of Virginia) and operates as a university golf course, but it is also open for guests of the Boar’s Head Inn. Lindsay Bruce Ervin, Inc.’s golf course consulting services for the Birdwood Golf Course included master plan design, construction document preparation and construction inspection. “College Courses” by Topsy Siderowf (Golf Digest writer) in the October 1995 issue of US Air Magazine considers the Birdwood Golf Course in the top ten of national colleges and universities.
